Sopela Town Council live cams

The town council of Sopela (Sopelana), near Bilbao, which streams a live surf camera over Atxabiribil and Arrietara beach.

Sopela, known in Spanish as Sopelana, is a coastal town of around 15,000 people in Biscay, a short ride north of Bilbao on the metro. Its town council looks after a stretch of cliff-backed coast that includes some of the best-known surf beaches in the Basque Country, and it publishes a live camera on its own website on a page called "Webcam y Olas", webcam and waves.

The camera sits on the clifftop above Atxabiribil and looks along the beach towards Arrietara, two halves of one long stretch of sand divided by a rock. It streams live video through ipcamlive, a service used by many town halls and businesses for public cameras, with the name of the beach, the date and the time printed on the picture. Because it is live rather than a still image, it shows how the waves are actually breaking, how far the tide has gone out and how busy the water is.

On this site the camera appears on the Sopelana page, credited to the town council with a link to its webcam page. The picture belongs to Sopela town council; the council may move the camera or change what it shows.
