Two cities and a mountain

Seville and Granada are the classic Andalusian city breaks, and each has a camera that shows its landmark. In Seville the view crosses gardens to the Giralda, the bell tower of the cathedral, with the temperature on screen; in Granada it looks from the Albaicín across to the Alhambra on its hill, with the peaks of Sierra Nevada behind. Above Granada, Sierra Nevada is the southernmost ski resort in Europe, and its own cameras follow the slopes from the village of Pradollano up towards the summit of the Veleta. Further north, in the Sierra de Andújar in Jaén, wildlife cameras watch the granite clearings and waterholes where the Iberian lynx, once close to extinction, now lives again.

Heat below, snow above

Few places show the contrasts of Spain's climate as clearly. Seville is one of the hottest cities in Europe in summer, while the ski slopes of Sierra Nevada, at well over 2,000 m, keep their snow into spring, within sight of the coast of the Costa Tropical. In winter you can look at blue sky over the Giralda in the morning and fresh snow on the pistes a couple of hours' drive away.

When to watch

Inland Andalusia is one hour ahead of the UK and Ireland. Early morning and late afternoon give the best light on the stone of the old towns, and the cities stay lively until late in the evening. Málaga airport, with flights from all over Britain and Ireland, is about two hours from Seville and a little over an hour from Granada. Every city on the site is also listed among the city webcams, and Sierra Nevada among the ski resort webcams.
