Gijón City Council live cams
The city council of Gijón, Asturias, which streams live cameras over San Lorenzo beach on its YouTube channel.
Gijón, Xixón in Asturian, is the largest city in Asturias, with around 270,000 inhabitants, and its city council runs a YouTube channel that it uses for two very different things. It broadcasts the full meetings of the city council live, so that residents can follow local politics, and it keeps cameras streaming over San Lorenzo, the beach in the middle of the city.
Two of those beach cameras are on this site. One looks east from a rooftop near Cimadevilla, the old fishermen's quarter, along the whole curve of the beach; the other looks across the western end of the sand to the church of San Pedro and the seafront wall below it. Both stream live video, so they show the people on the promenade, the state of the sea and, above all, the tide, which on this beach can turn a ribbon of sand into a vast plain in a few hours.
Because the council streams its meetings on the same channel, the beach cameras are identified here by their own streams. On this site they appear on the Gijón page, credited to the city council with a link to its channel.
