Beach towards the Pont del Petroli

Webcam provided by windy.com

From a swimming club on the sand, south-west past its pool to the Pont del Petroli pier. What you see

Badalona is the city next door to Barcelona on the north side, with a long, straight beach that most visitors never get to. The two webcams here watch it from a swimming club right on the sand, and they show a quieter, more local side of the coast than the beaches of central Barcelona.

What you can see on the Badalona webcams

Both cameras sit on the same building in the town centre, back to back. One looks south-west down the beach, past the club's own open-air pool, to the long pier of the Pont del Petroli and, on clear days, the three tall chimneys of the old Sant Adrià power station on the skyline. The other turns north-east along the sand towards Montgat, straight into the morning sun. Both are still images collected by Windy, which lets you step back through the last 24 hours to see how the day has gone.

Badalona beach webcam: towards the Pont del Petroli

Mounted on the Club Natació Badalona, a swimming club built right on the sand, this camera looks south-west down the town beach. The club's open-air pool, with its lane ropes and basketball hoop, fills the lower right of the picture; to the left the beach runs away in a long straight line, and in the distance the Pont del Petroli pier stretches out to sea with the three chimneys of the old Sant Adrià power station behind it.

The sea takes up the whole left side, so it is easy to see whether waves are breaking on the shore or the water is flat, and how many people have found a spot on the sand. In the morning the sun shines in from the left and sparkles on the water.

Badalona webcam: north-east along the beach

The second camera on the Club Natació Badalona faces the other way, north-east along the sand. The club's terrace, with its name in large letters on the front, takes up the left of the picture, and a beach café with tables and parasols sits below it; to the right the beach carries on towards Montgat, with the open Mediterranean beyond.

Because it looks towards the rising sun, the morning image is often washed with glare, and that glare itself tells you the sky is clear. By late morning the light swings round and you can see the colour of the water and the line of the surf along the shore.

The pier and the devil

The Pont del Petroli was built to unload oil from tankers and is now a promenade reaching about 250 metres (820 ft) out to sea, a short walk from the old Anís del Mono distillery, whose name is painted in huge letters on the seafront. Every May, on the night before the feast of Sant Anastasi, the town's patron saint, crowds gather on the beach promenade for the Cremada del Dimoni, when a huge papier-mâché devil is set alight and fireworks go off over the sea.

When to watch Badalona

Spain runs one hour ahead of the UK and Ireland. The beach faces south-east, so it is brightest in the morning, with the sun dropping behind the town in the evening. Summer weekends bring families from all over the metropolitan area; on weekdays outside July and August the sand is often almost empty. The best waves arrive with easterly storms in autumn and winter.

Around Badalona

The Roman town of Baetulo lies under the old centre, and part of it can be visited in the Museu de Badalona. Inland, the hills of the Serralada de Marina are crossed by walking trails with views back over the coast. Barcelona's own beaches begin a little beyond the mouth of the River Besòs, about 3 miles (5 km) to the south-west.

Visiting Badalona

Badalona is about 6 miles (10 km) from central Barcelona. The coastal train from Barcelona stops right behind the beach, and metro line 2 runs into the town. Three of its beaches, Coco, Dels Pescadors and La Marina, hold a Blue Flag for 2026; lifeguards cover the main stretches in the bathing season.
