Rotating camera on the harbour: the quay and slipway, then the estuary mouth with waves on the sandbar and the islets. What you see

Suances is a seaside town on the central coast of Cantabria, at the mouth of the Ría de San Martín de la Arena, with a fishing harbour on the estuary and surf beaches on the open sea around the headland. Its harbour cameras show the boats, the river mouth and the waves breaking on the bar.

What you can see on the Suances webcams

Both cameras are on the harbour, inside the estuary, and neither looks at the beaches themselves. The fixed one gives a fish-eye view of the basin: motor boats on the pontoons, the fishing boats at the quay and the town climbing the hill behind. The rotating one turns from the quay and the slipway to the walk along the harbour wall and the mouth of the estuary, where the waves break on the sandbar and rocky, green islets stand offshore, and on to the far bank.

Suances harbour webcam: the basin, the fishing boats and the town

Puertos de Cantabria's fixed camera on the harbour wall of Suances gives a fish-eye view of the whole basin, with a yellow buoy in the middle. Small motor boats lie along the pontoons on the left; further round, the red trawlers of the fishing fleet are tied up at the quay, in front of the harbour buildings and the blocks of flats that climb the hill. On the right, the harbour wall curves away with a paved walk along its top towards the slipway and the river mouth, where a glimpse of breaking surf shows at the edge of the picture.

The water against the harbour walls shows the state of the tide, which rises and falls several metres here. It is a still image, not a video: the refresh button brings the latest one.

The second camera on the harbour of Suances rotates, and it is the one to watch for the sea. It moves through a round of positions and sends a still picture from each: the fishing boats at the quay, the slipway with its small shed, the paved walk along the harbour wall with people out for a stroll, and then the mouth of the Ría de San Martín de la Arena, where waves break on the sandbar, a training wall runs out with its small white beacon and rocky, green islets rise beyond. Further round, it looks across the estuary to the green far bank and the boats moored in the channel.

Each picture can come from a different position, and the refresh button brings the latest one. The views of the mouth show how big the swell is before you head for the surf beaches beyond the headland.

Surf, sand and a sandbar

Suances grew as a resort in the 19th century, after a sea wall built in 1878 split its great beach in two. By the harbour lie the sheltered beaches of La Concha, La Ribera and La Riberuca. Beyond the Punta del Dichoso, where 17th-century defences once watched over the river mouth, Los Locos faces the open sea; it is one of the best-known surf beaches in Spain and a protected surf reserve. Los Locos and the Sable de Tagle hold the Blue Flag for 2026.

When to watch Suances

Suances is one hour ahead of the UK and Ireland. The mouth of the estuary is open to the north, and even a small swell breaks white on the sandbar across it, so the river-mouth views are the place to read the sea before you head for the surf beaches. The tide, which rises and falls several metres on this coast, changes the water level against the harbour walls from hour to hour.

Around Suances

Across the estuary lies the beach of Cuchía, in the municipality of Miengo. Santillana del Mar, with its medieval streets, is a short drive south-west, and Comillas is further west along the coast.

Visiting Suances

The harbour sits at the foot of the town, on the estuary, with the beaches of La Concha and La Ribera a few steps away. On the open beaches, swim only where the lifeguards' flags show it is safe.
