What you can see on the Yumbo Centre webcam
The view sweeps slowly round the centre, so it is worth watching for a minute or two to see the whole circuit. In daylight it is a guide to the sunshine and the number of people about; after dark it shows the centre under its own lights and whether the evening has got going.
Yumbo Centre webcam, Playa del Inglés
There is no beach in this picture. The camera turns slowly over the Yumbo Centre, the open-air shopping and nightlife centre in the middle of Playa del Inglés, and its tour takes in the minigolf course at the entrance, the terraces of the bars and restaurants, the surrounding buildings and the street outside, all in 4K.
By day it tells you how sunny it is in the resort and whether the terraces are filling up; after dark the lights come on and the centre gets going. It is run by the company behind the minigolf course, which streams cameras from its venues in the resort.
Shops by day, shows by night
The Yumbo opened in October 1982. It is built as a series of open-air courtyards and terraces over four floors, with more than 200 shops, bars, restaurants and clubs: you walk in at street level and the other floors open out below. During the day it is quiet, with a family feel, and people come for clothes, a chemist, a haircut or a meal. At night it changes completely, with drag cabarets, gay bars, music bars and clubs that stay open into the early hours.
Pride at the Yumbo
Twice a year the centre becomes the stage for the island's Pride celebrations. Maspalomas Pride, in May, and Winter Pride, in November, are both held around the Yumbo, and they bring thousands of visitors from many countries to Playa del Inglés. The dates move from year to year, so check the organisers' announcements before booking.
When to watch the Yumbo Centre
Gran Canaria keeps the same time as the UK and Ireland all year round, so the clock in Playa del Inglés is the clock at home. Daytime views are mostly about the weather; for the atmosphere, look in at night, when the terraces fill and the shows begin. The camera turns, so it has no fixed direction to judge the light by.
Getting to the Yumbo Centre
The centre stands in the middle of the resort, between Avenida de Tirajana and Avenida de España, about two-thirds of a mile (1 km) back from the beach. For the sea, the Playa del Inglés webcams cover the beach, the edge of the dunes and the coast towards San Agustín.
