What you can see on the Chilches webcam

The camera looks from a seafront garden between palm trees and flagpoles towards the beach. A round plaza and its planted beds fill the foreground; beyond the promenade wall lie the sand and the sea, with rock breakwaters offshore. The palms are the best wind gauge in the picture, and the strip of beach in the distance shows whether people are on the sand and how much white water is breaking along the shore.

Chilches beach webcam

From a seafront garden in Chilches (Xilxes), this tourist-board camera looks between palm trees and flagpoles towards the beach. A round plaza and its planted beds take up the foreground; beyond the low wall of the promenade come the sand and the sea, with rock breakwaters lying offshore to keep the beach in place.

The tall palms are the best wind gauge on the picture: still fronds mean a calm day, while a strong breeze sets them streaming. The beach itself is in the middle distance, enough to see whether there are people on the sand and how much white water is breaking along the shore. It is a quiet beach, used mostly by local families and holiday homes.

Two beaches and a marsh

The beach district lies about 2 miles (3.5 km) from the village, reached by a long, straight road. Its two sandy beaches, El Cerezo and Les Cases, are linked by a promenade of about a mile (1.5 km) with a viewing point that runs out over the sea. El Cerezo is known for being accessible to people with reduced mobility. Behind the beach, the Marjal is a wetland of high environmental value, and the village's history goes back to Roman times, when the Via Augusta passed this way.

When to watch Chilches

The beach faces east, so the sun rises over the sea and shines across the picture in the early morning. Mainland Spain is one hour ahead of the UK. Summer brings local families and the festival of Sant Roc in the beach district in mid-August; in winter the camera shows a peaceful, almost empty seafront.

Around Chilches

Sagunto, with its Roman theatre and hilltop castle, is a short drive south. Moncofa and Almenara are neighbouring beaches, and the Sierra de Espadán natural park rises inland with its cork oaks and walking trails.

Visiting Chilches

Chilches has a station on the Valencia to Castellón commuter line, about 30 miles (50 km) north of Valencia. The beach is reached by road from the village. Facilities are simple, which suits the families who return year after year.
