What you can see on the Oropesa del Mar webcam
The camera looks over Playa de la Concha from above the seafront road. Palms and lamp posts stand along the promenade in the foreground, then a play area and a wide expanse of golden sand. On the right a wooded headland closes the bay, with a harbour wall running out from its foot. The shelter of the headland makes the water here calmer than on the open beaches to the north and south, and the picture shows that clearly.
Oropesa del Mar beach webcam: La Concha
Set above the seafront road in Oropesa del Mar, this tourist-board camera looks over Playa de la Concha, the sheltered town beach. Palms and lamp posts line the promenade in the foreground; a children's climbing frame and the wide golden sand come next, and on the right a wooded headland closes the bay, with a harbour wall running out from its foot.
The bay is protected by that headland, so the water here is often calmer than on the open beaches to the north and south, and the camera makes it easy to see. Early in the morning the sun comes from the sea side and the palms cast long shadows across the sand; by midday the beach is in full light.
Towers against the pirates
The village grew up around a castle on the hill, and the coast is still watched by the Torre del Rei, a sixteenth-century defensive tower built to guard against pirates. The headland itself ends in a lighthouse. South of the town stretches the long, straight beach of Morro de Gos and the large holiday complex of Marina d'Or.
When to watch Oropesa del Mar
The beach faces east, so the morning sun comes off the sea and the palms throw long shadows across the sand; by midday the whole bay is in full light. Mainland Spain is one hour ahead of the UK and Ireland. The sheltered bay is a good bet on breezy days, when the camera can show calm water here while the open coast is rough.
Around Oropesa del Mar
The Via Verde del Mar, a walking and cycling path on an old railway line, follows the cliffs north to Benicàssim through tunnels cut in the rock, with coves below. The Desert de les Palmes natural park rises inland, and Castellón de la Plana is about 15 miles (24 km) south.
Visiting Oropesa del Mar
Oropesa has a station on the Valencia to Barcelona line and is reached from the AP-7 and the coast road. Castellón airport is the nearest, and Valencia airport is about an hour and a quarter away by road. La Concha is close to the old village, so a morning on the beach combines easily with a walk up to the tower.
