What you can see on the Ibiza Town webcam
The camera looks out from above the Figueretes shore across the open bay. Small rocky islets break the surface, yachts and motor boats lie at anchor in the middle distance, and on clear days the low outline of Formentera stretches along the horizon. In the bottom corner, the palms and rocks of the shore give a sense of scale. It is mostly sea and sky, which makes it the place to check the colour of the water, the cloud and how choppy the bay is. Now and then a plane on its way to the airport crosses the sky.
The bay from Figueretes
From above the shore at Figueretes, the seaside district just south of Ibiza Town's old walls, the camera looks out across the open bay. Rocky islets break the surface, yachts and motor boats lie at anchor, and on clear days the low line of Formentera runs along the horizon. In the bottom left corner, palms and rocks on the shore frame the view.
It is mostly sea and sky, which makes it a quick check on the colour of the water, how choppy it is and how much cloud there is. Facing the morning sun, it is at its brightest early in the day.
A World Heritage town by the beach
Ibiza Town was founded by the Phoenicians over 2,600 years ago, and its walled upper town, Dalt Vila, is ringed by Renaissance fortifications. In 1999 UNESCO added Ibiza to its World Heritage list for both its culture and its biodiversity: the listing covers Dalt Vila, the Phoenician remains and the meadows of Posidonia seagrass that keep the water around the island so clear. Figueretes lies just below the walls, and its seafront promenade runs on towards the long beach of Platja d'en Bossa.
When to watch Ibiza Town
Ibiza is one hour ahead of the UK and Ireland. The camera faces the morning sun, so early views are bright and often show the sea at its calmest; by afternoon, the breeze can raise a chop across the bay. Winters are mild, and the sea is warmest in August, at around 25 °C, cooling to about 14 °C in late winter.
Around Ibiza Town
Walk up through the gates into Dalt Vila for the cathedral and the views from the walls. Ferries and fast boats to Formentera leave from the harbour, and the beaches and salt pans of Ses Salines lie a short drive south.
Visiting Ibiza Town
Ibiza airport is about 4 miles (6 km) from Figueretes. The beach here is sandy and sheltered, with rocky stretches along the promenade. Dalt Vila is steep and cobbled, so comfortable shoes beat sandals for the climb.
