What you can see on the Santa Eulalia webcam
The camera looks north-east from high above the town, so the view is almost aerial. The hillside houses spread out below, the town fills the flat ground by the sea, and the curve of the town beach leads the eye to the marina and the low headland at the far end of the bay. Behind rise the green, wooded hills of north-east Ibiza. With so much sky in the frame, it is a fine camera for watching the weather arrive: cloud building over the hills, a shower crossing the bay, or a clear blue morning over a flat sea.
Santa Eulalia from the hills
This camera looks north-east from high in the hills behind Santa Eulalia, on Ibiza's east coast, so the town lies spread out below like a map. Houses climb the slope in the foreground, the town fills the flat ground by the sea, and the curve of the town beach leads to the marina and the low headland at the end of the bay. Behind rise the wooded hills of north-east Ibiza.
With so much sky in the frame, it shows the weather coming better than any beach-level camera: cloud building over the hills, a shower crossing the bay or a cloudless morning. The beach is small at this distance, but you can still see whether the sea is calm.
The town with a river
Santa Eulària takes its surname, des Riu, from the river that reaches the sea at the western end of town. It is often called the only river in the Balearic Islands, although for much of the year it is little more than a stream. An old arched bridge crosses it just inland. Above the town, the white church of Puig de Missa stands on its own small hill, built in the 16th century with a round bastion so that it could serve as a fortress against pirate raids.
When to watch Santa Eulalia
Ibiza is one hour ahead of the UK and Ireland. The coast faces east and south-east, so the sun rises over the sea and mornings are the brightest time on the camera, often with the bay at its calmest. In summer, an afternoon breeze ruffles the water. The sea is warmest in August and stays pleasant for swimming into October.
Around Santa Eulalia
The beaches of Es Canar, Cala Llenya and Es Figueral are a short drive north-east along the coast. Punta Arabí, at the end of the bay, hosts a long-running hippy market. Ibiza Town is about 9 miles (15 km) away.
Visiting Santa Eulalia
Ibiza airport is about 14 miles (22 km) from the town. The town beach slopes gently into the sea, which makes it popular with young families, and the flat seafront promenade is easy with a pushchair. From the town centre a path winds up to Puig de Missa, worth it for the view over the bay.
