Mountain pass in Community of Madrid, Spain

Road and car park, Segovia side

Webcam provided by windy.com

A traffic camera on the CL-601 just below the top, over the road and the big car park. Time-lapse. What you see

The Puerto de Navacerrada is the high pass of the Sierra de Guadarrama, the mountains that Madrid sees on its northern skyline. For decades Madrid came here to ski; today it draws walkers, sledgers and anyone who wants to see snow close to the capital. The cameras show the pass itself, its old slopes and the road.

What you can see on the Navacerrada webcams

Two cameras watch the pass. One faces up a slope cut through the pine forest above the hotels and mountain huts, with the road climbing past on the right. A traffic camera on the Segovia side shows the road over the top and the big car park, which in winter fills up early at weekends, against forested ridges. The camera on the slope sends still images, not video: the refresh button brings the latest one. The traffic camera plays as a time-lapse of the day.

Navacerrada webcam on the Telégrafo slope

This camera looks up the Telégrafo, one of the old ski slopes of the Puerto de Navacerrada: a broad strip of open ground cut through the pine forest, climbing to the skyline. In front are the roofs of a mountain hotel and other buildings on the pass, and on the right the road climbs past a stone retaining wall.

It is a small, simple picture, but it answers the question everyone in Madrid asks on a winter morning: has it snowed on the pass? A white strip between the dark pines means yes. It is a still image, not video: the refresh button brings the latest one the camera has sent.

The road and car park on the Segovia side

This is a traffic camera on the CL-601, the road that crosses the Puerto de Navacerrada from Madrid to Segovia, published on Windy. It looks along the road just below the top of the pass, on the Segovia side: the carriageway with its painted junction, a long car park beside it and, beyond, ridges covered in the pines of the Valsaín forest.

It is the more practical of the two cameras. Before driving up you can see whether the road is clear or white, whether ploughs are out and how full the car park is, which on snowy weekends can be the difference between a good day and turning back. Windy shows it as a time-lapse of the day.

Skiing on the pass

The pass, at 1,858 m (6,096 ft), lies between Siete Picos to the west and the Bola del Mundo to the east, on the border between the regions of Madrid and Castile and León. The road over it was planned in 1778 to link Madrid with the royal palace of La Granja, and the mountain railway from Cercedilla has stopped at the pass since 1923. Ski runs spread over both sides from the 1940s, partly inside the Valsaín pine forest. After years of legal battles, in March 2026 Spain's Supreme Court let stand a ruling that ordered the runs to be dismantled and the land restored, so the ski area is no longer working.

When to watch Navacerrada

Spain is one hour ahead of the UK and Ireland. Snow can fall from late autumn to spring, and the cameras show at a glance whether the pass is white. The car park view is the one to check before driving up at a weekend. Low cloud and fog can close in on the pass quickly.

Around Navacerrada

The pass is surrounded by the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park. Paths lead west to Siete Picos and east to the Bola del Mundo, and the road north drops through the Valsaín forest to La Granja and Segovia, with its Roman aqueduct.

Getting to Navacerrada

The M-601 climbs from Collado Villalba, and the C-9 Cercanías train runs from Cercedilla up to the pass and on to Cotos. Madrid-Barajas airport, with many flights from the UK, is about 45 miles (73 km) away by road. In snow, carry chains: the road over the top is steep.
