What you can see on the Puerto Rico webcams
A live camera looks down from a hillside resort over the marina and across to the beach; another looks south over the whole seafront, with the harbour walls and the open sea in view. Between them you can see how full the beach is, how calm the bay looks and whether the boats are on their moorings or out at sea.
Puerto Rico beach and harbours webcam
Looking south from high up in the valley, this camera shows Puerto Rico's whole seafront in a single frame: the crescent of beach with its rows of sunbeds and parasols, a harbour with a breakwater on the left below the dry hillside, the masts of the marina on the right, and the open sea beyond.
The sun climbs in the upper left during the morning, so the picture is backlit early on and at its best from late morning. Because the harbour walls are in view, it also works for anyone booked on a boat trip: you can see how much white water there is outside them. It is shown as a time-lapse of the last 24 hours.
Puerto Rico marina and bay webcam
This live stream comes from a boutique resort on the hillside above Puerto Rico and looks down across the town to the sea. In the foreground are the pontoons and moored yachts of the marina, then a rocky outcrop, and on the right the sandy bay of the beach with apartment blocks climbing the slope behind it. Beyond lies open Atlantic as far as the horizon.
The stream carries a chill-out music soundtrack, so you may want the sound off. It is a good camera for checking whether the bay is calm, how full the beach looks and whether the boats are still on their moorings or heading out.
Three valleys and a lot of sun
The resort spreads over three parallel valleys that run down to the Atlantic: from east to west, Agua de la Perra, Puerto Rico itself and Amadores. Winter temperatures usually sit between 20 and 25°C, and on average it rains on fewer than three days a month, which is why so many people choose this coast for winter sun. The two harbours hold sailing yachts and fishing boats, and boat trips run from here along the coast.
When to watch Puerto Rico
The bay faces south, so the beach is in sunshine from mid-morning until late afternoon and the cameras are at their best around the middle of the day. Gran Canaria keeps UK time all year, so there is no adjusting your watch. In midwinter the sun sets a little after 6pm, and the sea is around 19°C at its coolest.
Around Puerto Rico
Amadores, with its own beach, is a walk away along the seafront path to the west; further on is Puerto de Mogán, a small harbour town crossed by canals. To the east lie Patalavaca and Arguineguín, and beyond them the dunes of Maspalomas.
Visiting Puerto Rico
The streets are steep, so if hills are a problem, look for somewhere to stay near the bottom of the valley. Buses run along the coast road towards Arguineguín and Playa del Inglés. The harbour walls give the beach some shelter, but watch the flags all the same, and leave the harbour mouths to the boats.
