What you can see on the Alcúdia webcams
From the marina you look over pontoons full of yachts and motor boats to the open bay and the hills that close it, with the seafront hotels of the port along the shore. One view follows the breakwater towards the commercial quay, another looks straight out over the moored boats to the hills. On the other side of the peninsula, a view by the coast road faces the Bay of Pollença. Together they show the sky, the colour of the sea and whether the wind is up on either bay.
Yachts at anchor and the bay, from the boat-lift roof
From a rooftop at the Alcudiamar marina, this camera looks out over the Bay of Alcúdia. The blue frame of the marina's boat lift stands in the foreground, yachts lie at anchor outside the harbour and, across the water, wooded hills rise behind the seafront hotels.
It shows more open water than any other camera in Port d'Alcúdia, so it is the one to check for wind and waves before a day on the beach or out on a boat. On calm mornings the bay is a sheet of silver; when the breeze picks up in the afternoon, small sails and wind ripples appear. A date and time stamp in the corner confirms the picture is current.
Port d'Alcúdia marina and seafront
This view looks across the inner basin of the Alcudiamar marina, with large motor yachts on the pontoons in the foreground and rows of masts beyond. Behind them runs the seafront of Port d'Alcúdia, with its apartment blocks and hotels, and the green hills of the peninsula form the skyline.
It gives a good sense of the harbour town itself rather than the open sea, and of the weather over the hills: whether clouds are sitting on the tops or the sky is clear. On still days the water inside the marina is a perfect mirror.
Alcudiamar breakwater and the outer bay
Looking along the marina's outer pontoons and breakwater, this camera shows rows of motor boats in the foreground, the quayside car park and, beyond the harbour wall, the open bay towards the commercial port.
It is the camera for watching harbour traffic and the state of the sea outside the breakwater. A calm surface beyond the wall means a pleasant day on the water; whitecaps out there mean a breeze that the sheltered marina hides.
Bay of Pollença from Alcúdia's north shore
On the other side of the Alcúdia peninsula, this image comes from a kitesurf and windsurf shop beside the coast road, facing the Bay of Pollença. The road and two tall beach flags fill the foreground; beyond the low sea wall lies the bay, with the mountains on the far shore on the horizon.
The flags make it a handy wind gauge: when they stand out stiffly and the bay is streaked with white, the kitesurfers are out. It plays here as a time-lapse of the last 24 hours, and the bay can look quite different here from the Bay of Alcúdia on the south side.
Two bays and a Roman town
Behind the resort, the old town of Alcúdia keeps its medieval walls and gates, and next to them lie the ruins of Pollentia, the Roman city founded in the second century BC. The peninsula beyond rises to the Talaia d'Alcúdia and the hermitage of La Victòria, with views over both bays. Few places on the island pack so much history so close to a beach.
When to watch Alcúdia
Mallorca runs one hour ahead of the UK. The bay faces east and south-east, so the sun rises over the water: early morning is the best time for calm seas and soft light. Summer afternoons often bring a sea breeze, enough for sailing but rarely for big waves. Swimming season runs from about June to October, when the sea is above 21 °C; it peaks around 26 °C in August.
Around Alcúdia
The beach runs south without a break into Playa de Muro and the wetlands of S'Albufera. Port de Pollença is about 6 miles (10 km) north, across the neck of the peninsula. Ferries leave the commercial port for Menorca.
Visiting Alcúdia
Palma airport is about 35 miles (55 km) away, roughly 45 minutes by motorway. The beach is sandy and very shallow, popular with young families. You can walk along the top of the old town's walls, and the Roman ruins are a few minutes from the main gate.
