Over Molló's rooftops to the green hills of the Ritort valley, with the Romanesque church on the left. What you see

Camprodon is a small stone town in the Catalan Pyrenees, close to the French border, built where the rivers Ter and Ritort meet. Its symbol is the Pont Nou, a medieval bridge with a gate tower over the Ter, and a live webcam looks straight at it. Two more cameras show Beget and Molló, villages of the same valleys with Romanesque churches.

What you can see on the Camprodon webcams

In Camprodon the view is of the bridge's tall stone arch, its tower and the river running over the stones below, with the houses of the town and wooded hills behind. It is live video, so you can watch people crossing the bridge and see how much water the Ter is carrying. In Beget the camera looks over slate roofs to a Romanesque bell tower in a deep, wooded valley. In Molló it looks across green hillsides, with the village church tower on one side. Together they show the weather from the town up to the border hills.

Camprodon's medieval bridge over the Ter

This camera looks straight at the Pont Nou, the medieval stone bridge that is the emblem of Camprodon. From a building on the riverside, it takes in the bridge's high main arch over the Ter and the smaller arches beside it, the square tower at its end with the gateway into the old town, and the river running over pebbles and boulders below. Behind are the houses along the river and the wooded hills of the valley.

It plays as a time-lapse of the last 24 hours, so you can follow the light and the level of the river through the day: the best camera for checking the Ter after rain or during the spring thaw.

Beget and its Romanesque bell tower

Beget is a stone village hidden in a deep valley of the Alta Garrotxa, part of Camprodon since 1969, and this camera looks across its houses to the church of Sant Cristòfol. On the left is a lawn with a stone building; in the centre, the church's tall Lombard bell tower, with rows of arched windows, rises beside its nave and apse; on the right, old houses with balconies drop down towards the stream. Steep wooded slopes and a cliff close in behind.

It is a calm, close view of one of the best-kept Romanesque villages in Catalonia, good for seeing the light, the autumn colour and snow on the roofs. It comes through Windy as a time-lapse of the day.

Molló and the Ritort valley

Molló is the last village before the Coll d'Ares pass into France, a few miles up the road from Camprodon. This camera looks over the rooftops of the village to the open, green hillsides of the Ritort valley, scattered with farmhouses and woods. On the left stands the Romanesque church of Santa Cecília, built in the 11th and 12th centuries, with its tall bell tower.

The hills here are high enough to hold snow well into winter, and the camera shows the clouds coming in from the border; in summer it gives a good idea of the weather for walks in the valley. It comes through Windy as a time-lapse of the day.

A royal town in the mountains

Camprodon grew around a market founded in 1118 beside the monastery of Sant Pere, and in 1252 it became a royal town. The great Catalan earthquake of 1428, centred near here, killed hundreds of people across the region. The composer Isaac Albéniz was born in Camprodon, and a museum in the town remembers him. Beget, hidden in the Alta Garrotxa, has belonged to Camprodon since 1969, and its church of Sant Cristòfol is one of the finest Romanesque buildings in the area. The ski slopes of Vallter 2000 are at the head of the Ter valley, above Setcases, and have their own page under Ski Resorts.

When to watch Camprodon

Camprodon is one hour ahead of the UK and Ireland. The valley is narrow, so in winter the sun reaches the river late in the morning and leaves early. The river is at its liveliest in spring, when the snow melts in the mountains above. In autumn the beech woods around Beget turn copper, and the cameras show the colour change week by week.

Around Camprodon

Molló, a few miles up the road, has the Romanesque church of Santa Cecília, with a tall bell tower that stands out across the valley; from there the road climbs to the Coll d'Ares pass and France. Beget is reached by a winding mountain road, and walking paths link the villages. Ripoll and its monastery are half an hour downstream.

Visiting Camprodon

The nearest airport is Girona, about 61 miles (98 km) away, an hour and a half by car. Barcelona is about 90 miles (145 km). The road into the valley comes from Ripoll or, over the hills, from Olot.
