What you can see on the Masella webcams

The resort's own cameras watch the base at 1,600 m (5,250 ft), with the lift stations where most skiers arrive, and climb through the forest to the open slopes of La Tosa, at about 2,150 m (7,050 ft). Others look up the valley of Coma Oriola, along a run lined with snow cannons and down a quiet piste deep in the pines. A weather camera adds a long view over the Cerdanya to the mountains on the far side. They are mostly shown as time-lapses of the day, so you can see how the light and the cloud have changed since the morning. In winter they show the snow and the queues; out of season, the green slopes and the forest.

Masella webcam on La Tosa, 2,150 m

This camera of the resort, published on Windy, looks down one of Masella's main runs from about 2,150 m (7,050 ft) on La Tosa. The broad piste drops between belts of pine with chairlift lines, fences and tracks running beside it, and the bare summit ridge of La Tosa rises on the right.

It shows the snow on the upper half of the resort and how far the trees give shelter from the wind. On Windy it plays as a time-lapse of the day, so you can see how the light and the cloud changed over the slope since morning.

The base of Masella at 1,600 m

The resort's camera at the bottom of Masella, at about 1,600 m (5,250 ft), looks at the base station of a chairlift, its white curved roof and the queuing lanes in front of it, with a piste-map board and the forest behind. It is the busiest point of the resort, where most skiers arrive and set off.

In winter it is the camera to look at for queues and for how much snow there is at the bottom of the mountain. It plays here as a Windy time-lapse of the day.

Coma Oriola, Masella's western valley

Coma Oriola is the western valley of Masella, with its own small base area at about 1,950 m (6,400 ft). This camera of the resort, seen here as a Windy time-lapse, looks up the valley from beside a snow cannon: a broad piste of grass climbs between dark pines to the ridge, with a chairlift line on the left.

Facing the morning sun, it is often hazy with glare early on, and clearer later in the day. In winter it shows the snow cover and the snowmaking on this side of the resort, and on a clear day the depth of the valley.

Masella's Enamorats slope, with the Cerdanya below

This camera of the resort looks along the Enamorats slope, at about 1,700 m (5,580 ft), where a row of snow cannons stands along a fence of wooden stakes. Beyond the trees the ground falls away to the Cerdanya, and on a clear day the valley floor and the mountains on its far side fill the top of the picture.

In late autumn and early winter you may see the cannons at work, sometimes with a rainbow in the spray. Later it shows the snow cover on this run and the weather over the valley. It is shown here as Windy's time-lapse of the day.

Les Fustes, high in Masella's woods at 2,150 m

This camera looks down a quieter part of Masella, Les Fustes, at about 2,150 m (7,050 ft): a piste and a track drop between dense pines into a shaded valley, with a snow-cannon arm in the foreground and a terrace of deckchairs at the bottom left. Rocky crags rise on the left.

The camera shows how the snow lies in the woods, where it keeps longest, and whether there is sunshine or shade on this side at different times of day. It plays here as a Windy time-lapse of the day.

The Cerdanya from Masella, 1,900 m

This weather camera of 3Cat, the Catalan public broadcaster, stands at 1,900 m (6,230 ft) at Masella and looks over the top of the lifts and the forest to the Cerdanya, the wide, flat valley below the resort, with its fields and villages and a long range of mountains closing the horizon.

It is the best camera here for the bigger picture: whether there is fog lying in the valley, how far you can see, and whether the high peaks across the valley are clear or under cloud. 3Cat shows each photo with the temperature, humidity and how long ago it was taken.

A resort in the forest

Masella opened in 1967. Its slopes run from about 1,600 m to 2,535 m (8,317 ft) at the top of La Tosa, along a central ridge with a valley on each side: Coma Pregona to the east and Coma Oriola to the west, where a second, smaller base sits at about 1,950 m (6,400 ft). Much of the skiing is through pine forest, which gives shelter on windy days. A gondola from La Molina reaches the top of La Tosa, and together the two resorts form the Alp 2500 ski area.

When to watch Masella

Spain is one hour ahead of the UK and Ireland. The season usually runs from December to Easter. The slopes face north, so they keep their snow well, but some cameras look into the sun in the morning: late morning usually gives the clearest pictures. The valley view is the one to check for fog lying in the Cerdanya.

Around Masella

The village of Alp is a few minutes below the resort, and Puigcerdà, the capital of the Cerdanya, about 20 minutes away: see our Puigcerdà and Cerdanya webcams. In summer the forest tracks and the lakes near the base are good for walking and cycling.

Getting to Masella

The nearest airports with flights from the UK and Ireland are Barcelona and Girona, each about 95 miles (150 km) away by road, about two hours' drive through the Cadí tunnel. In winter, carry snow chains.
