What you can see on the Playa de Muro webcams
From high above the beach, the view sweeps along the curve of the bay to the mountains at its far end, with rows of parasols and sunbeds on the sand, the line of the surf and a channel running out to sea between two breakwaters. Lower down, another view looks from a hotel garden over the dunes to the water. You can see at a glance whether the sea is flat and green or white with waves, and how much of the beach is in use.
Playa de Muro beach webcam
From the top of a beachfront hotel, this camera looks along the great curve of Playa de Muro. Below it lie the fine sand, rows of straw parasols and sunbeds, the dunes and pines behind the beach and the hotel gardens; a channel runs out to sea between two breakwaters, and mountains close the view at the far end of the bay.
It is one of the clearest pictures of the bay: you can count the people on the sand, see whether the sea is turquoise and flat or rolling in white lines, and watch the beach volleyball. Early morning is calm and bright; with a north-easterly the surf builds and the whole shoreline turns white.
Playa de Muro dunes and Bay of Alcúdia
This camera looks from a garden behind the dunes at Playa de Muro. Palms and shrubs fill the foreground, a lawn slopes down to the dune vegetation, and beyond it lie a strip of sand and the open Bay of Alcúdia, with the hills across the bay on the horizon.
It shows the natural side of this coast, where the dunes are protected and the beach has no promenade. From here you can judge the swell and the colour of the sky; on a rough day, the lines of white water reach right across the frame. It plays here as a time-lapse of the last 24 hours.
Between the sea and S'Albufera
Behind the beach lies S'Albufera, the largest wetland in the Balearic Islands and a natural park since 1988. Its canals were dug in the nineteenth century to drain the marsh, and they still reach the sea along this shore. Today the park is famous for birds: herons, egrets, ospreys and marsh harriers, best seen in spring and autumn. The dunes of Es Comú, protected as part of the park, keep this end of the beach wild.
When to watch Playa de Muro
Mallorca is one hour ahead of the UK. The beach faces north-east across the bay, so sunrise is the time for flat water and long shadows. The water stays shallow a long way out, warming quickly in early summer and reaching about 26 °C in August. When a north-easterly blows, rolling waves reach the shore, which the cameras show clearly.
Around Playa de Muro
Port d'Alcúdia and its marina are a short walk or bike ride north along the beach. Can Picafort is about 4 miles (6 km) to the south-east. The main entrance to S'Albufera is on the coast road, next to the bridge known as the Pont dels Anglesos.
Visiting Playa de Muro
Palma airport is about 35 miles (55 km) away. The beach is long, so most visitors walk to the stretch in front of their hotel; lifeguards cover the busiest parts in summer. Bring insect repellent for evenings near the wetland.
