Vallter 2000 is a ski resort near the eastern end of the Pyrenees, set in a high glacial cirque above the village of Setcases, where the river Ter is born. Its webcams, run by FGC and 3Cat, cover the base and the summit, so you can see the conditions on the mountain from home.

What you can see on the Vallter 2000 webcams

Two 360-degree panoramas can be turned with your mouse or finger. One stands at the base, at about 2,100 m (6,890 ft), and looks around the buildings, the car park, the lifts and the steep, open mountainsides of the cirque. The other is at the very top, at 2,535 m (8,317 ft), among scree and bare summits, looking down the valley and, on clear days, far beyond. A weather camera looks up one of the pistes, and a 24-hour time-lapse shows how the day changed at the top. In winter they show the snow and the wind; in summer, the high pastures and the walkers.

Vallter 2000 webcam at Pla de Morens, 2,100 m

FGC's 360-degree camera at Pla de Morens, at about 2,100 m (6,890 ft), looks around the base of Vallter 2000. You can see the main buildings, the car park, the chairlift and the beginners' slopes and, turning round, the steep, open mountainsides of the cirque that surrounds the resort, with the valley of the Ter falling away below.

It is the camera for arriving: whether the road and the car park are clear, how busy the base is and how much snow there is on the lower slopes. In summer it shows the start of the walks to the source of the Ter and the summits around the cirque.

Vallter 2000 from Marmotes, 2,535 m

This FGC panorama stands at Marmotes, at 2,535 m (8,320 ft), the top of Vallter 2000, by the arrival of a lift. It turns from scree slopes and bare summits to a view down the valley to a dark, rocky peak, and on clear days far beyond, sometimes over a sea of cloud.

At this height the wind and the cloud make all the difference, and this is the camera that shows them. A 24-hour time-lapse from the same spot follows further down.

A Vallter 2000 piste, with the weather

This 3Cat weather camera, at about 2,300 m (7,550 ft), looks up one of Vallter 2000's slopes: a broad piste between grass and rock, with a red snow cannon in the foreground, pines on the right and a lift line climbing to a rocky summit on the horizon.

It shows the state of the piste itself and, through the data beside each photo, the temperature and wind on the mountain. It is a still photo, not a video.

High above the Ter

The ski area runs from about 2,000 m (6,560 ft) to 2,535 m, surrounded by the peaks of Bastiments, Gra de Fajol and Pic de la Dona, inside the natural park of the sources of the Ter and the Freser. Being at the eastern end of the range, Vallter gets most of its snow from easterly storms off the Mediterranean, and its winters vary more than those of the resorts further west. The road up from Setcases is the highest road climb in Catalonia: 12.2 km (7.6 miles) at an average gradient of 7.8%. The resort is run by FGC, the Catalan government railway company.

When to watch Vallter 2000

Spain is one hour ahead of the UK and Ireland. The ski season usually runs from December to Easter. Look in the morning, when the air is clearest; the top camera is the one to check for wind, which can stop the upper lifts.

Around Vallter 2000

Setcases, a village of stone houses, is at the foot of the road up, and Camprodon, with its medieval bridge, lies further down the valley: see our Camprodon webcams. In summer the resort is a starting point for walks to the source of the Ter and the summits around the cirque.

Getting to Vallter 2000

The nearest airport with flights from the UK and Ireland is Girona, about 75 miles (120 km) away by road, roughly two hours' drive; Barcelona is about 105 miles (165 km). In winter, carry snow chains for the last climb from Setcases.
